(CNN) -- A fire aboard a Lithuanian ferry in the Baltic Sea left 23 people lightly injured early Saturday, a German government agency said.
The Lisco Gloria was en route from the Kiel, Germany to Klaipeda, Lithuania when an explosion occurred on the ferry's upper desk, said Ulrike Windhovel, an official with the German Central Command for Maritime Emergencies.
Most of the injured had trouble breathing due to smoke inhalation. There were 249 people on board and no life-threatening cases.
The passengers returned to Kiel on a different ferry.
