Bucharest, Romania (CNN) -- A Turkish ship loaded with metal sank Wednesday in the Black Sea off the Romanian coast, the Romanian naval authority said.
The 17 crew members on board were rescued by Romanian rescue ships, the authority said.
The ship had left the Romanian port of Constanta in the morning. After a couple of hours, the crew asked for help, saying the ship had begun to list.
A few hours later, at 12.51 p.m. (5:51 a.m. ET), the ship -- the Medy -- sank after failed efforts by Romanian ships to keep it afloat, the authority said.
