London, England (CNN) -- About 8,000 people evacuated the British Museum Saturday after authorities received complaints from about 10 people of eye and throat irritation, a spokeswoman for the museum said.
Police and fire officials searched the facility and didn't find anything that could have prompted the complaints, declaring the museum safe, the spokeswoman said.
The incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. (7:30 a.m. ET). The museum will reopen at its normal hours Sunday, the spokeswoman said.
