(CNN) -- Five suspected militants and one policeman were killed during a special anti-terrorism operation Saturday morning in the North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, Russian state media said.
The militants were hiding in an apartment building in the city of Nalchik, according to the state-run RIA Novosti news agency.
The militants are believed to have belonged to the terrorist network of Magomedali Vagabov, the high-profile guerrilla leader who was suspected of planning multiple terror acts, including the Moscow subway bombings in March 2010, according to the state-owned Itar-Tass news agency.
Moscow has been targeting terrorism in Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia.
