(CNN) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 struck the island of Papua New Guinea early Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake was centered 40 km (25 miles) south-southeast of Arawa, Bouganville, Papua New Guinea, at a depth of 145 km (90 miles), USGS said. The earthquake occurred at 11:14 a.m. Monday (8:14 p.m. Sunday ET)

There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.
