American injured in blast In Beijing, police say

(CNN) -- An American was hurt in an explosion near a downtown Beijing subway station Thursday, Chinese media reported, quoting police.

State-run Xinhua news agency reported that the blast was small and that police were probing the cause.

The location is also near a newsstand and close to many embassies. Police described the underground subway station as busy and small.
