(CNN) -- A British journalist held captive in Pakistan since March has been released, the U.K. Foreign Office told CNN Thursday.

Asad Qureshi was in Pakistan working on a documentary on militants in the country's tribal region when he was abducted in March.

"Asad Qureshi has been freed and is in Islamabad at the moment where he is receiving consular assistance," a spokesman for the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office said.

Qureshi was traveling with two former Pakistani intelligence officials when the three were abducted. One of the intelligence officials was later killed.
