(CNN) -- North Korean state media on Thursday confirmed the seizure of a South Korean fishing boat earlier this month with seven crew members aboard.

The North Korean army intercepted the boat with four South Koreans and three Chinese crew members on August 8, according to the North's Korean Central News Agency.

According to the news agency, a preliminary investigation revealed that the boat had violated the inter-Korean border. The news agency alleged that crew members had confessed to intruding into North Korean waters.

Few details have emerged about the incident. The seizure comes amid mounting tensions following the March sinking of a South Korean warship that left 46 sailors dead.

South Korea blamed it on a North Korean submarine attack. The North called the accusation "a fabrication."
