Two civilians killed in operation in Afghanistan

(CNN) -- Two civilians were accidentally killed when Afghan and coalition troops were searching for a Taliban commander, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said Saturday.

The incident occurred in the village of Amin Kalacheh in the Kandahar district, ISAF said. The troops captured the Taliban commander, killed one insurgent and wounded another. But when they searched compounds in the area they noticed that two civilian men and a woman had been shot by during the operation.

A man and a woman were killed.

"We take accidents such as this very seriously, and we remain fully committed to protecting the people of Afghanistan and take every precaution to prevent civilian casualties," said Navy Capt. Jane Campbell, a spokeswoman for ISAF.
