Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Taliban insurgents attacked Jalalabad airport in eastern Afghanistan Wednesday, detonating a car bomb at the facility's entrance and then attacking security forces, a NATO official said.
NATO troops killed at least eight insurgents, according to the official. Two NATO service members and one "local national" were also wounded.
In a text message to CNN, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said six men wearing suicide vests entered the airfield, killing 32 foreigners. Mujahid said the fighting is ongoing.
CNN could not independently confirm those claims.
