Earthquake strikes near Japan

Tokyo, Japan (CNN) -- A 6.1- magnitude struck near Japan Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of damage. Japanese authorities had not issued a tsunami warning.

The quake was 4.8 miles (7.7 km) deep and struck in the sea near the east coast of Honshu, the largest Island in Japan, the USGS said.
