Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- Fifteen people were killed Thursday and at least 25 were wounded in two suicide bombings in the Bannu District of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province, officials said.

The dead include nine policemen, said Sardar Muhammad Abbas, commissioner of Bannu District. Bannu Police Chief Iqbal Marwat was critically injured in the attack, he said.

Six civilians also were killed, said Ikram Khan, a Bannu administration official. The injured include 11 policemen and 14 civilians, Khan said.

Both blasts were the work of suicide bombers, said Abdul Jabbar, district coordination officer. The blasts were eight minutes apart.

Most casualties were from the second explosion, which came after police had arrived at the scene of the first explosion, Abbas said. The attacks were coordinated and planned, he said.

CNN's Kiran Khalid and journalist Nazar Ul Islam contributed to this report.
