(CNN) -- Crews in Chile were still trying to rescue 34 workers trapped inside a mine Friday afternoon, the government said.

A statement from the country's National Emergency Office said 130 people were working to rescue the miners after the main ramp into the mine was blocked late Thursday.

The agency did not specify the health conditions of the trapped workers.

Local media reported that the workers may be in a shelter inside the mine.

The San Esteban mine is located in the Atacama region in northern Chile.
