Mexico City, Mexico (CNN) -- Mexican federal police have arrested a suspect accused of being an accomplice in the January shooting of Salvador Cabanas, a Paraguayan soccer player who played in Mexico, authorities said Wednesday.

Cabanas was shot in the head at a Mexico City bar after getting into an argument with an acquaintance, identified as

Jose Jorge Balderas Garza, police said. Balderas remains at large.

Police have arrested Francisco Jose Barreto Garcia, saying he was an accomplice to the shooting. Barreto told investigators that the two suspects escaped with help from security personnel at the bar, police said.

Cabanas has mostly recovered, which doctors have termed "miraculous."
