(CNN) -- Eight people, including members of a local politician's staff, were killed when a small plane crashed in Mexico, the state-run Notimex news agency reported Sunday. The politician, Roberto Borge Angulo, who is running for governor in the state of Quintana Roo, was not on the plane, the agency said.
But six members of the politician's staff and two crewmembers were killed in the crash.
The Cessna went down in a jungle in the state of Yucatán, Sunday afternoon, the agency reported.
It was not clear what caused the crash.
