Mexico City, Mexico (CNN) -- The bodies of at least 20 people were found in various sectors of the municipality of Ciudad Madero, Mexico, south of Tamaulipas, state news agency Notimex reported Friday.
The victims appeared to have been shot. Early reports indicated that the most of the victims were found in the colony of Hipodromo, where 10 bodies were recovered, mostly men, Notimex reported.
Police recovered six bodies in the colony of Talleres and the bodies of four other men were found near Miramar Beach in the Adriana Gonzalez Hernandez sector, according to the state news agency.
The state and federal police forces continue to investigate reports of clashes between armed groups, but no information has been released.
