(CNN) -- A worker sustained a leg injury Wednesday afternoon when he fell between two spans of an interstate bridge that links Minnesota and Wisconsin, officials said.
The man was on the Interstate 94 bridge over the St. Croix River, according to the Hudson, Wisconsin, fire department. He landed on a platform and was lifted up to the roadway before being taken to a hospital, officials said.
It was not clear whether he was an employee or contractor for the Minnesota or Wisconsin transportation departments. Kevin Hendrickson, service manager at the nearby St. Croix Marina Service, said crews had been sandblasting the bridge since summer.
