He was heading back to the Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield, Missouri, when the helicopter went down shortly after 11 a.m. in that town west of St. Louis, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said there was no immediate indication as to what caused the crash, and the St. Louis County Police Department was working with the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board on the investigation.

No one else was aboard the helicopter when it went down, and no one was hurt on the ground, according to Missouri authorities.
