(CNN) -- A man died Wednesday after filming underwater for National Geographic near Boynton Beach Inlet in Florida, according to the Palm Beach County Sherriff's Office in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Wesley Skiles of High Springs, Florida, was 52.

Skiles signaled to one of his fellow divers that he needed to ascend to the surface because he had run out of film, according to the sheriff's office. The other divers continued working and "did not maintain a visual" as Skiles made his way up.

When the other divers decided to ascend a few minutes later, they noticed Skiles' body lying motionless on the ocean floor. The divers quickly brought him to the surface and administered CPR, the sheriff's office said.

Skiles was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he was pronounced dead.
