(CNN) -- A 68-year-old woman was killed and 16 other people were injured, three seriously, when a church van crashed on the Florida Turnpike, authorities said.
The Ford passenger van was traveling southbound, returning to Deerfield Beach, Florida, from the Orlando area, when the driver lost control, according to a Florida Highway Patrol statement. The van swerved, rotated counterclockwise in the road, then overturned, striking the guardrail. The crash happened Saturday evening, about 54 miles south of Orlando.
The woman was partially ejected and dead at the scene, according to the highway patrol. Three people, ranging in age from 19 to 49, were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The van's driver was among those seriously injured. Thirteen others were transported with minor injuries.
All those in the van were wearing seat belts, the highway patrol said.
