Condo fire kills 1 in California

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- A fire at a condominium building in Escondido, California, killed one person early Saturday after engulfing four units, a police spokesman said.

Two of the units sustained heavy damage before the fire was contained about 5 a.m. (8 a.m. ET), Escondido police spokesman Lt. Craig Carter told CNN.

Authorities are working to identify the victim, Carter said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
