Son of former NFL quarterback dies in accidental drowning

By the CNN Wire Staff

(CNN) -- The 2-year-old son of former NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham drowned in his parents' pool spa, a spokeswoman for the Las Vegas, Nevada, Police Department said Wednesday.

The boy was found Tuesday evening floating in the spa attached to the pool, according to spokeswoman Barbara Morgan.

A friend of the boy's mother performed CPR until paramedics arrived and transported the boy to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Morgan said.

Neither parent was home at the time of the incident, Morgan said.

Cunningham, 47, played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1985 until a brief retirement in 1995. He went on to play for the Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens before retiring for good after the 2001 season.
