(CNN) -- Four people were killed and six injured Wednesday when a tanker truck collided with a school special needs van just west of Springfield, Ohio, authorities said.
All the dead were in the van, which was carrying adults, an unidentified police officer told CNN affiliate WDTN. They were returning from a creative learning workshop, he said.
The driver was the only person in the truck, and he was taken to a nearby hospital, said Lindsay Komlac, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened at about 12:40 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 70 eastbound near State Route 40 in Clark County, Ohio. The truck was traveling westbound on I-70 before crossing the median into the eastbound lane, clipping a car and crashing into the van, Komlac said.
Video from the scene showed a heavy blanket of snow over the interstate.
The I-70 eastbound in Clark County was closed as authorities investigated the crash.
