(CNN) -- Panama officials will lead the investigation into what caused a fire in a Carnival Cruise Lines ship, the National Transportation and Safety Board said Thursday.

The U.S. Coast Guard will also be part of the investigation, the transportation board said.

Panama will lead the investigation because that is the country the vessel is flagged under, the transportation board said.

The ship was towed to a port in San Diego, California, after the fire caused the vessel to lose power earlier this week.
