Delta flight aborted due to smoky smell

(CNN) -- A Delta Air Lines flight headed from Boston to New York City on Saturday morning returned to Boston's Logan International Airport after a pilot noticed a smoky odor in the cockpit, according to a Delta spokesman.

The odor had dissipated by the time the airplane, carrying 34 people, landed in Boston, Carlos Santos said.

The pilot of Delta Flight 1379 decided to turn back eight minutes into the flight out of an "abundance of safety," Santos added.

All of the plane's passengers were re-booked on a later New York-bound flight.
