(CNN) -- Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress was relieved of duties Monday, according to a statement from the team.

The decision by the team owners comes one day after a 31-3 loss at home to the Green Bay Packers, quarterback Brett Favre's former team.

The loss dropped the team record to 3-7.

Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier has been named interim head coach for the remainder of the season. He was due to join Vikings owner Zygi Wilf to make a public statement later in the day.
