(CNN) -- Schalke are back on top of the German Bundesliga table by a point after defeating Stuttgart 2-1 on Friday evening, with all the goals coming in a 10-minute spell just after the interval.

A dour game exploded into life when Edu fired home his first goal of the season from 12 yars out after an error from Serdar Tasci.

But German international defender Tasci levelled just four minutes later when he headed home Zdravko Kuzmanovic's free-kick.

However, Schalke netted what proved to be the winning goal in the 55th minute when Kevin Kuranyi collected a pass from Heiko Westermann to slot home his 14th goal of the season and give Schalke their third successive victory.

That goal lifted Kuranyi level with Bayer Leverkusen's Stephan Kiessling at the top of the Bundesliga scoring charts and ensured the Gelsenkirchen club moved clear of title rivals Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Bavarian giants Bayern will return to the top of the table if they defeat struggling Freiburg on Saturday.
