Uruguay striker Javier Chevanton helped Atalanta come from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Serie A relegation rivals Bologna on Wednesday.
Marco Di Vaio had put Bologna ahead at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara in the 17th minute when he drilled a long-range free-kick into the bottom corner to beat Atalanta goalkeeper Ferdinando Coppola.
Former Italy international Di Daio doubled the lead in the 34th minute when he latched on to Marcelo Zalayeta's assist to fire a fierce volley from the inside the penalty area past Coppola and into the net.
Atalanta pulled a goal back two minutes later when Thomas Manfredini was able to head a Tiberio Guarente corner past Bologna goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano.
Bologna regrouped after the interval and seemed to be in the ascendancy before Chevanton, who had replaced Ferreira Pinto, equalized for Atalanta in the 60th minute.
The Uruguay international striker was found by Cristiano Doni and he directed the ball past Viviano and into the top corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.
Atalanta remain in the relegation zone in 18th, one place and three points behind Bologna.
Elsewhere, Bari held Genoa to a 1-1 draw at Stadio Luigi which ensured both sides remain in contention for a Europa League place.
Paulo Barreto put Bari ahead with a touch of fortune in the fifth minute - but the luck was on Genoa's side in the 52nd, when Omar Milanetto grabbed an equalizer.
In the Coppa Italia, Fiorentina claimed a 3-2 victory over Lazio while in Spain's Copa Del Rey Getafe won 2-1 at Mallorca and Sevilla ran out 3-0 winners over Deportivo La Coruna.
