(CNN) -- Former top-ranked tennis player Jennifer Capriati is recuperating at a south Florida hospital after what a spokeswoman described as an accidental overdose of prescription medication.

Spokeswoman Lacey Wickline said the medication was prescribed by Capriati's personal physician. The tennis star is "recovering fully and speedily," Wickline said.

The exact time is unclear, but the overdose is said to have happened late Saturday or early Sunday. Capriati, 34, is listed in stable condition, Wickline said.

The medication involved -- and the hospital where Capriati was admitted -- were not disclosed.

The Capriati family asked for privacy on the matter and said another statement would be coming in the next 24 hours.
