(CNN) -- After months of tabloid fodder and a very public split, the divorce between Sandra Bullock and Jesse James is now final.
Word of the divorce was confirmed to CNN by Bullock's representative, Cheryl Maisel.
The couple have been in the headlines since tabloid reports of James' infidelity broke in March. James, 41, admitted to cheating on Bullock, 45, and later said he took "a pretty amazing life and marriage" and "threw it away."
The two separated shortly after Bullock won the best actress Academy Award in March for her portrayal of Lee Anne Touhy, the tough-minded Memphis socialite who takes in a homeless Michael Oher in "The Blind Side."
Then in April, Bullock filed for divorce in a Texas court, saying their marriage "has become insupportable." Months of legal paperwork followed.
The divorce petition did not refer to the son she adopted, Louis Bardo Bullock, an infant born in New Orleans in January.
He said that "considering the pain and devastation" he had caused Bullock, "it would be selfish not to let her go."
After the split, James spent time in a rehab program and then maintained a normal schedule in his Los Angeles home.
For her part, Bullock largely shied from the spotlight until she made a very public splash at the MTV Movie Awards in June, when she received MTV's Generation Award -- and locked lips on stage with fellow actress Scarlett Johansson.
"OK, now that we have done that, can we please go back to normal?" she said at the time. "Because therapy is really expensive. Go back to making fun of me. I don't care."
