(CNN) -- The votes are in, the numbers tallied and your number one iconic photograph is "Migrant Mother," by Dorothea Lange.

Taken in 1936 as part of the Farm Security Administration's photography program, the influential documentary photographer's most famous image captures the human consequences of the Great Depression.

Also making the top five were "Ultimate Protest," an image of a Buddhist monk setting himself alight in protest in Saigon at the time of the Vietnam war and "Lynching," Lawrence Beitler's ghastly image of two men being lynched in Marion, Indiana.

Last month, CNN's arts and culture program, icon, asked you to vote for your top five iconic photographs.

This month, we want to know your thoughts on the most controversial contemporary artists.
