Domestic violence: How you can help

(CNN) -- Domestic abuse crosses all economic, racial, religious, ethnic and age lines. In the United States, an estimated 33 million people have been a victim of domestic violence at some point in their lives, according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and CNN has gathered a few quick ways of how you can help and how you can learn more.

Donate a cell phone
It sounds simple, but it can make an impact. Organizations such as the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence collect deactivated cell phones and then sell them, using the proceeds to help fund aid for victims of domestic violence. More information
