(CNN) -- A 14-year-old who was shot three times on the grounds of an elementary school in southern California remained in critical condition Monday morning, officials said.
"Though he's in critical but stable condition, he's expected to live," said Sgt. Andrew Goodrich of the Fullerton, California, police department.
Authorities suspect a gang link to the shooting and have not made an arrest in the case, Goodrich added.
The boy was approached Saturday night by a male on the grounds of Topaz Elementary School in Orange County, just outside of Los Angeles County.
Police did not have a detailed description of the shooter.
The school was closed at the time of the shooting.
