New York (CNN) -- Star New York Mets pitcher Francisco "K-Rod" Rodriguez was in police custody after a "domestic dispute" Wednesday night at the team's stadium, police told CNN.
Rodriguez had not been formally arrested, a police spokesman said.
The altercation involved Rodriguez's father-in-law, according to CNN-affiliate WABC.
The pitcher allegedly punched his father-in-law in the face, leaving an abrasion and sending the man to the hospital, the affiliate said, citing police.
Rodriguez joined the Mets in 2009 after being a closer for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He has been named to the All-Star team many times.
