No bail for 'Grim Sleeper' suspect

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- A judge ordered Thursday that accused "Grim Sleeper" serial killer Lonnie David Franklin Jr. held without bail pending an August arraignment date.

Franklin's arraignment on 10 counts of murder and one count of attempted murder had been scheduled for Thursday, but it was postponed at the request of prosecutors. The new arraignment date has been set for August 9, and Franklin entered no plea during his initial appearance Thursday afternoon.

The 57-year-old former garbage man was arrested Wednesday and charged with a string of Los Angeles killings that date back to 1985. Authorities say they tracked him down by linking DNA from a crime scene to that of a family member who had been convicted of a weapons charge.
