(CNN) -- A suspect has been arrested in the shooting deaths of a female judge and clerk at a Brussels courthouse, Jean-Marc Meilleur, a spokesman for the prosecutor's office, said Friday.

The man was arrested overnight in Warandepark, between the parliament and royal palace in central Brussels, public broadcaster VRT reported Friday. The man, a 47-year-old Iranian, admitted to the shootings when he was arrested, VRT reported.

The public prosecutor questioned the man overnight, VRT said. A news conference was planned for later in the morning, Meilleur said.

Police and Belgian news outlets reported Thursday that a man shot and killed the victims before fleeing.

Both victims were shot in the head, broadcaster VRT reported. The judge had been close to retirement.
