(CNN) -- Eight people drowned and one was missing after a small boat carrying illegal immigrants from Afghanistan hits rocks in the eastern Aegean Sea on Tuesday morning, a spokesman for the Greek coast guard said.

Seven men and one woman were among the dead, said the spokesman.

Authorities were searching for a young boy who was missing, although he was feared dead, the spokesman said.

The incident happened at 7:30 a.m. (0530 GMT) when the boat crashed on rocks as it approached the Greek island of Lesvos from nearby Turkey, the spokesman said.

Nineteen people were aboard and 10 were rescued without major injuries, he said.

Authorities arrested a Turkish national for human trafficking, the spokesman said.
