Service member killed in Afghanistan

(CNN) -- A service member with the NATO-led force in Afghanistan was killed in fighting Friday, military officials said.

The victim died during a gunbattle in eastern Afghanistan, the International Security Assistance Force said.

The service member's nationality, name and other details about the incident were not released.

So far during September, 24 coalition troops have been killed, according to CNN figures compiled from coalition reports.
