ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- At least 12 people were killed after missiles struck three homes in a village in Pakistan, local intelligence sources said.
The attack, thought to come from an unmanned U.S. drone, occurred in a village in North Waziristan, an area on Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. Children were among the dead, said the officials, who cannot be named because they are not authorized to speak to media.
The target appeared to be Taliban commander Siraj Haqqani, who was rumored to be in the area, the officials said. It was unclear whether Haqqani was among the dead.
The United States routinely offers no comment on reported cross-border strikes from Afghanistan. However, the United States is the only country operating in the region known to have the ability to launch missiles from drones, which are controlled remotely.
