BEIJING, China (CNN) -- Authorities were trying to rescue 15 workers trapped in a flooded coal mine in the southwestern Chinese province of Guizhou, state media said Friday.

The flooding began about 4 p.m. Wednesday, as about 30 people worked underground, the Xinhua news agency reported. Fifteen people escaped without injury.

This coal mine accident comes after 30 people were killed in a coal mine blast in southwestern China in late May.
