ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- A French national was kidnapped early Saturday afternoon in southwestern Pakistan, police in Pakistan said.
The man was captured in Balochistan province, according to Chaghi District Police Officer Ghulam Yasin Baluch.
Three men, a woman and two children were traveling in two vehicles from Quetta in Pakistan toward Iran.
Just after the two vehicles passed through the town of Dalbadin, six armed men stopped them, took one of the men hostage and drove away with him.
Pakistani law requires tourists to register with police in the district to which they travel, but police said the group did not inform authorities of their travel plans.
Dalbadin -- about halfway between Quetta and the Iranian border -- is the headquarters of Chaghi District, in southwestern Baluchistan.
The French Foreign Ministry on Saturday said it had been looking into the report and plans to issue a communique about the incident.
