(CNN) -- Ten people died and an additional 16 were missing Tuesday, a day after a mudslide rolled through a mining camp in Peru's southern department of Puno.
Luis Palomino, chief of the National Institute of Civil Defense, said five more people were hurt, one of them critically, when the mudslide occurred Monday.
Among the dead was a baby and two other children, Palomino told CNN en Espanol.
The only way to reach the camp was by helicopter, and bad weather Tuesday afternoon made it impossible to return after a morning flight, he said, adding that more flights were planned for Wednesday.
He said the gold miners worked informally, often accompanied by their families.
