LIMA, Peru (CNN) -- A magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit near the coast of northern Peru on Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake, at a depth of 22 miles (35 kilometers), occurred 77 miles (124 kilometers) west-northwest of the city of Chiclayo and 86 miles (138 kilometers) south of Piura, the Geological Survey said.

It was 465 miles (750 kilometers ) northwest of Peru's capital, Lima.

No reports of damage or injuries were immediately available.
