(CNN) -- Two anti-riot police died and five were injured in the collapse of part of Paraguay's principal stadium in the capital, Asuncion, medical officials said.
The incident happened during a soccer match Sunday when a block of cement that was part of the Defensores del Chaco Stadium's structure dropped some seven meters (23 feet) onto the police.
Play was suspended 40 minutes into the game.
Last year, the 50-year-old structure was declared in good enough shape to host world competition by FIFA, the International Federation of Association Football.
