(CNN) -- Rescuers were desperately trying to save dozens of people Saturday who were thrown overboard when a boat collided with a ferry in the Nile River in northern Egypt, the nation's government-owned Al-Ahram newspaper reported.

The accident happened Friday near the city of Rashid, the paper said.

About 50 people were on the ferry. Six people were hospitalized and three dead bodies, including two children, were found at the site of the accident, the paper reported.

A search for survivors Saturday was hampered by the narrow area in the waterway where the collision occurred, the paper said.
