Tropical Storm Danny quickened its pace northward Friday night, as forecasters warned it could produce dangerous surf conditions and rip currents along the U.S. coast over the next day or two.

A tropical storm watch is in effect for the North Carolina coast extending from Cape Lookout, just south of Pamlico Sound, north to Duck, just north of Albermarle Sound, the National Hurricane Center said.

A tropical storm warning -- meaning winds of 39 to 73 mph (63 to 118 km/hr) are likely within 24 hours -- may be required for portions of the North Carolina coast Friday night. Read full article »
