The arctic air hovering over the southeastern United States on Wednesday will bring bitter cold by nightfall and a hard freeze warning for much of Florida that could kill crops and sensitive vegetation, forecasters said.

Low temperatures east of the Mississippi River will be in the upper teens to low 20s, as cold air makes its way from Canada to the Florida Keys, according to the National Weather Service.

The hard freeze warning in Florida takes effect at 10 p.m. Wednesday and will last six to 10 hours. Another hard freeze is expected Thursday night. Read full article »
