(CNN) -- Gennaro Ruotolo has become the fourth Serie A coach to lose his job this season after being sacked by rock-bottom side Livorno.

Ruotolo has paid the price for Livorno's dreadful start to the current Serie A season.

Ruotolo has paid the price for Livorno's dreadful start to the current Serie A season.

Sunday's 2-1 home defeat to Palermo left Livorno bottom of the table and still winless after eight matches this season.

Livorno have acted quickly to replace Ruotolo with Brescia coach Serse Cosmi.

Cosmi's first match in charge will be away to Roma at the Olympic Stadium.

Ruotolo's dismissal follows those of former Italy coach Roberto Donadoni, fired by Napoli after seven matches, and Angelo Gregucci, given the boot by Atalanta after beginning the season with four straight defeats.

First to leave his post was Luciano Spalletti but he quit as Roma coach after just two matches -- both ending in defeats.

Ruotolo earned one international cap for Italy in 1991 and spent most of his career with Genoa.

He joined Livorno as assistant to Leonardo Acori in 2008, replacing him one match before the end of last season, guiding the side into Serie A through the Serie B playoffs.
