(CNN) -- Vincenzo Iaquinta and David Trezeguet were both on target as Juventus drew 2-2 at Genoa to move level on points with Inter Milan at the top of Italy's Serie A.

Vincenzo Iaquinta

Vincenzo Iaquinta was on target as Juventus drew 2-2 at Genoa joint top of Italy's Serie A.

Juventus had taken the lead in the sixth minute of the game at the Luigi Ferraris stadium with their first meaningful attack after Claudio Marchisio broke free down the flank and delivered a low ball into the penalty area.

A dummy run from Mauro Camoranesi deceived the home defense to leave Iaquinta with time and space to smash the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

After a sluggish start the home side almost equalized in the 20th minute but Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo threw himself in front of the ball to block Giandomenico Mesto's shot.

Ciro Ferrara's side missed a chance to double their advantage on the half-hour mark when Fabio Grosso delivered a dangerous free-kick in the penalty area but Brazilian striker Amauri got in front of Iaquinta, who was better placed, but could only direct his effort wide

Mesto was not be denied a second time and in the 31st minute he equalized for the hosts when he powerfully headed Giuseppe Sculli's cross from the left past Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon from close range.

Genoa looked like they had claimed the points when Hernan Crespo evaded Juventus defenders Giorgio Chiellini and Nicola Legrottaglie to head Mesto's cross past Buffon in the 74th minute.

But substitute Trezeguet was able to secure a point for the visitors six minutes from time after some lackluster Genoa defending.

Grosso chipped the ball into the box which Chiellini directed back across goal to leave Trezeguet with the simplest of headed finishes into an empty net from close range.

The point enabled Juventus to pull level on points with leaders Inter after five matches with the Milan club only ahead on goal difference while Genoa climb up to fourth place on 10 points -- three behind the top two.

Elsewhere, in Spain, Real Zaragoza battled to a 1-1 away draw against Sporting Gijon in the only La Liga fixture of the day.

After losing to Sevilla and Real Valladolid in recent games, Zaragoza secured a point after Abel Aguilar's equalized in the second half.

Sporting had taken the lead through Diego Castro's superb long-range strike in the 29th minute.

Zaragoza now move up to 15th while Sporting remain mid-table after taking five points from their first four matches.
