(CNN) -- Hamburg's Bundesliga title hopes took a severe knock on Sunday after they were beaten 1-0 at fellow-contenders Stuttgart.
Mario Gomez celebrates his last minute winner as Stuttgart edged Bundesliga title rivlas Hamburg.
Germany international striker Mario Gomez scored the only goal in the second minute of injury time to leave Martin Jol's UEFA Cup quarterfinalists third in the table, three points behind leaders Wolfsburg and level on points with champions Bayern Munich.
Gomez fired into the roof of the net after Hamburg goalkeeper Frank Rost failed to hold a fierce drive from midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger.
Just moments earlier Hamburg could have stolen the three points for themselves but striker Dennis Aogo struck the crossbar.
The victory leaves Stuttgart still in touch with the leaders, trailing by just six points in fifth position with seven matches remaining.
In the day's other match Bayer Leverkusen drew 1-1 with Werder Bremen, a result that leaves both teams in mid-table.
Tranquillo Barnetta gave the home side the lead after 12 minutes with a 20-meter drive, but on-loan Chelsea striker Claudio Pizarro headed Werder level in the 33rd minute.
